Multi-Sector Estimator

The Multi-Sector Estimator will be responsible for preparing accurate and detailed estimates across a wide range of construction project types. This role will collaborate with architects, clients, business development, and operations teams to ensure project goals, design intent, and budget alignment are fully understood. The Multi-Sector Estimator will lead efforts in pricing competitive bids or negotiated proposals and gather cost data from reliable subcontractors and suppliers. They will also help build a strong pipeline of trade partners for current and upcoming projects.

 

Specific Duties & Responsibilities:

Review plans and design drawings; prepare quantity take-offs for assigned scopes.

For negotiated work, perform a comprehensive review of the plans to ensure the full scope is captured, including any design intent not explicitly noted.

Analyze bids to ensure alignment with specifications, material quality, pricing, schedule, insurance, and compliance requirements.

Resolve questions with subcontractors prior to bid submission and clarify scope gaps or overlaps.

Track trends in construction standards, finishes, and materials across various sectors to ensure bids are competitive and accurate.

Develop scope-specific bid packages and inclusion checklists for subcontractors and track response completion.

Use estimating software and digital tools to calculate, record, and manage estimates with accuracy.

Provide estimates for planning, scheduling, budgeting, and subcontractor/vendor selection.

Collaborate with clients, vendors, and team members to resolve issues and refine scope details.

Maintain and improve a centralized historical cost database to enhance the accuracy of future estimates.

Compare estimated costs to actual project outcomes and identify areas for refinement.

Recommend process improvements to increase estimating efficiency and reduce cost discrepancies.

Monitor cost trends in construction work to support decision-making and continuous improvement.

 

Competencies Required:

Analytical Skills – Ability to compare data and drawings to identify inconsistencies and ensure all costs are accounted for.

Communication – Strong written and verbal communication, with the ability to clearly explain cost breakdowns and negotiate scope inclusions.

Decision Making – Capable of making timely, well-informed decisions aligned with project strategy and client needs.

Estimating Expertise – Deep understanding of various construction trades and materials; ability to prepare detailed and accurate cost estimates independently.

Financial Acumen – Ability to read and interpret budgets, schedules, and material cost data to influence bid accuracy and strategy.

Relationship Building – Strong interpersonal and negotiation skills to foster trust with subcontractors, vendors, and internal teams.

Technology Proficiency – Skilled in Microsoft Office tools (Excel, Word), Bluebeam, OnScreen Takeoff, BuildingConnected, and other relevant estimating software.

Initiative – Self-motivated with the ability to work independently while managing multiple deadlines.

Time Management – Proven ability to prioritize work, meet bid deadlines, and manage competing priorities effectively.

 

Background and Experience Required:

Bachelor’s degree in Construction Management, Architecture, Engineering, or a related field preferred; equivalent experience considered.

8–10 years of estimating experience, preferably with exposure to a variety of scopes and sectors.

Strong knowledge of construction practices, systems, and trade sequencing.

Excellent skills in estimating, budgeting, vendor coordination, and preconstruction support.
